Our Instructors

Richard Baker, OD, FAAO has been practicing Optometry for over 37 years, and is Assistant Clinical Professor at Berkeley's School of Optometry. He is a member of the AmericanAcademy of Optometry, the American Optometric Association and the California Optometric Association. Dr. Baker is involved in clinical research and is a consultant to the contact lens industry. He also comanages refractive and cataract surgery.

  

 

 Robert Bell is a nationally known speaker/trainer and creator of the EyeCoach Selling System. He writes a monthly column on selling for 20/20 Magazine, has developed an EyeCoach Facebook page that shares selling tips, and has a unique perspective on helping independent ODs grow their practices. 

 

 

 

  

Patrick Caroline, FAAO has served as contributing editor for the Contact Lens Spectrum for the past twenty years and is on the editorial board for Contact Lens and Anterior Eye journal. He has published extensively and lectures worldwide on a wide range of contact lens topics. He holds a number of prestigious positions, including Associate Professor at the Pacific University College of Optometry and fellow member and diplomat of the Cornea and Contact Lens Section of the American Academy of Optometry.

 

 Debora DeLong is a well-known speaker who presents annually at both International Vision Expo East and West. She also teaches classes for opticians at various state meetings and for numerous other organizations. Debora is a Regional Manager for Safilo and has been with the company for nearly 20 years. In 2004 Debora was voted on of the "50 Most Influential Women in Optics".

 

 

  

Ronald Goldman, Esq. graduated cum laude from California State University, Northridge and received his Juris Doctor in 1981 from California Western School of Law in San Diego. In 1985 Mr. Goldman began focusing his practice on defending health care practitioners in malpractice cases and handling their business and transactional needs. Mr. Goldman lectures at UCSF and UOP several times a year on the subjects of risk management and business law for health care professionals.

 

  

Aaron Lech, OD lectures and consults on medically based optometric care and is an active member of the COA’s committee addressing issues affecting third party panel access. Over four years, he transformed a traditional, refractive-based optometry practice into a high-end, medically based office. he has served as Director of the Optometry Clinic at BalboaNavalHospital in San Diego and as adjunct faculty of several colleges of optometry. 

 

 

Lori Lobato, CBCS is a Certified Billing and Coding Specialist as well as an onsite consultant specializing in Medicare and third party insurance billing and reimbursement. She is the Medical Manager for a Bay Area optometric practice, Coding Consultant for Optovue, and author of a medical insurance training manual.

 


 

 

Jill Luebbert, CPOT, ABOC is a full-time practicing paraoptometric with over 20 years of experience. She has served on the board of Nebraska Paraoptometric Section, on the Council of the AOA Paraoptometric Section, and is currently a liaison to the national InfantSEE Committee. Jill is Section Editor of Optometry – Journal of the AOA and a regular contributor to Vision Care Product News and Optometry Times. She is also an independent ophthalmic consultant and instructor.

 

 

John A. McGreal, Jr., OD is director of the Missouri Eye Associates, a medical-surgical consultation center. He has lectured nationally and internationally for over 20 years on topics ranging from clinical care to compliance/coding. Dr. McGreal was a Peters Memorial Lecturer at the University of California, Nussenblatt Memorial Lecturer at the University of Houston, Missouri Optometrist of the Year and University of Missouri Educator of the Year.

 

 

Michael Rothschild, OD has an innovative approach to Practice Management, which empowers the staff to develop their individual leadership skills. He founded West Georgia Eye Care in 1999 and is a founding member of LeadershipOD.com, a consulting website dedicated to excellence in optometric. On this site, he created the BluePrint, an online team empowerment program designed to make good practices even better. He lectures frequently on team building and practice communications.  

 

Mary E. Schmidt, ABOC, CPO is an internationally known speaker and consultant with over 30 years of experience and hands-on, practical knowledge of the optical field. Her presentations are accredited by the American Optometric Association and the American Board of Opticianry. In 2005 Mary was voted one of the 50 most influential women in the optical industry. Mary served as PEN’s Director of Education from 1995-2000.

 

 

Terry Theiss, CPOT, ABOC was PEN’s first Education Director from 1989 until 1995. Today, she is Manager of Special Programs for the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO). She teaches the Optometric Assistants Course for the CAO throughout Canada and is editor of their newsletter, Assistant’s View and writes curriculum for the American Optometric Association.
